The Thabang Tshepothemba Foundation Easter soccer and netball tournament that was held in Kutlwanong, was a major success.

It took place between 18 and 21 April, at the Rearabetswe Sports Ground in Kutlwanong, with 24 soccer teams and four netball teams vying for top honours.

Tshepo Khoabane, founder member, says the event brought together teams from various organisations and communities promoting sport development, team work, and community engagement.

Exciting matches were played, with Royal Eagles emerging as the soccer champions and the Rearabetswe team winning the netball tournament.

The event fostered community spirit with spectators and supporters cheering on their favourite teams.

Khoabane says he started the foundation in May 2019 when he presented what he termed the “5 v 5 games,” which were very successful.

“In June 2019, I did a charity fun walk with the purpose of collecting shoes for children going back to school.

“In 2020, I gave 60 learners school shoes and during the Covid-19 pandemic I gave 50 families food parcels,” he says.

“Then in 2023, I gave soccer kits to eight teams,” he says.

In 2021, after the pandemic restrictions were being lifted, Khoabane held a follow-up event at the Malebaleba Primary School where he donated 60 pairs of school shoes.

“In September of that year I went to the Virginia Tikwe School and gave them 60 pairs of school shoes. In 2022, I donated 60 pairs of shoes to the Mohobo Primary School, and in 2024 I donated 60 pairs of shoes to the Impucuko Primary School.”

Forever the philanthropist, Khoabane continues to support his community and in 2024 he went to the Itukisetseng Combined School where he donated complete school uniforms in partnership with the United Masters Soccer Club.

Since he started this initiative in 2019, Khoabane has gone on to present 11 successful sporting events.

In June they will be hosting a schools tournament at Allanridge School, in Nyakallong, in Odendaalsrus and in Kutlwanong.

This will take place on 14, 15, and 16 June.
