An avid Welkom squash player, Tristan Davies (16), won the Northern Free State closed men’s section, beating Ivor Thompson (40).
The score was three games to one, and the tournament was held at the Rovers Squash Club in Welkom from 25 to 27 February.
Tristan is a member of the Rovers Squash Club, and attends Curro online school. He has been playing squash since the age of eight and he trains for about five hours a day doing various drills and exercises to improve his game.
Tristan is currently ranked number one in the Free State in his age group.
This past weekend (04/03, 05/03) he played in the Bloemfontein Open where he came fourth out of players from all over the country.
“The squash player I enjoy watching the most at the moment is Mostafa Asal. He is ranked fourth in the world. My aim is to play on the PSA tour when I turn 18, and make a career from it. I love the game of squash,” says Tristan.
When Covid-19 started it was difficult for Tristan, and it affected his game.
He however kept up his solo training at home, hitting balls against any wall he could find and doing bodyweight training.
