The women of the AME Mt Horeb Church resolved to wear all black instead of their traditional all white attire during the Mother’s Day service held on Sunday, 12 May.

The women of the circuit made the decision to take this sacred decison to indicate their fight against the scourge of GBV, said Tina Moloi, station secretary.

Moloi announced the latest development to the congregation saying that women are concerned about the ever increasing rate of GBV against women and children in the country. She pointed out that one out of five women in relationships have experienced physical violence by their partners.

Moloi told Vista that the abuse women are suffering in the hands of men includes physical, economic, intimidation, harassment and stalking.

She added that the rate at which women are raped in the country is higher than the global average.

Moloi says GBV is wide spread and ingrained in the homes, work places, in traditions and in cultures.
