Professional women in the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DoJ-CD) in Matjhabeng celebrated Women’s Day at the Wild & Out restaurant in Welkom last Friday – 23 August.
It was a day filled with fun and interesting topics to spice up the mundane.
The provincial MEC for Social Development, Mathabo Leeto, was the guest speaker and acknowledged the hard work done by the female prosecutors.
Leeto encouraged them to lead the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) by holding awareness campaigns to assist women with relevant information to report cases of GBV.
“Most cases are not reported due to lack of information and knowledge. To win the battle against this scourge, you need to deepen the campaign by going to the ground to arm women with information to protect themselves and stop further abuse,” she said adding that a concerted effort is needed to uproot the GBV pandemic.
Leeto said women should acknowledge that the legacy left by their foremothers must be protected and passed down to the next generation.
“It is an undisputed fact that women are a majority and that comes with the responsibility to change our environment, despite numerous challenges facing us. As women, we are unable to lift ourselves up because we are competing against each other and that is hampering our growth.
“No one is going to bring us out of the bondage of oppression holding us down. The laws of the country do not compel a 50% representation. It is up to us to relentlessly ensure that the status quo changes,” she said, adding that women expect others to fight their battles while they are busy fighting each other. “This has to stop,” Leeto said.
“We need to level the playing field and ensure our girl children inherit a system that favours equality and women emancipation. Let us use the power we got from God to change our environments and, more importantly, determine the world we want,” she said.
Johan van der Spuy, a marriage counsellor, presented the topic about the importance of intimacy in marriage, citing that lack of communication and intimacy are a recipe for disaster.
“Communication is the cornerstone of every marriage and it is essential to keep things spicy in the bedroom. Accessories and toys add to creativity. However, communicating on what your partner’s needs and limits are, is crucial”, he said.
Khojane Matutle, who produces herbal libido products, made a presentation about the importance of taking herbal supplements to boost one’s performance.
Claudia De Franca, instructor at the Motion Fitness Studio in Welkom, and who came second in the elite division of the South African Pole Sports Federation (SAPSF) of the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF), provided lessons to prosecutors in attendance on pole dancing to spice up their bedroom experience.
The event was organised by Elise van der Spuy, prosecutor in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court.
