A Hennenman woman was viciously stabbed several times in the head, neck and face with a broken bottle on Saturday afternoon.
Lenie Schoeman’s alleged attacker, a 50-year-old woman, had previously lodged with her.
Schoeman (69) says that during the incident on 28 October, the attacker demanded that she give her R1 000. When she refused, the woman began to assault her with a wine bottle.
The woman also broke another bottle and started stabbing her with it. She said she was going to kill Schoeman if she did not give her money.
At one stage, the woman apparently tried to force Schoeman into the bath and tried to drown her.
When the woman left after the violent attack, Schoeman crawled to her neighbour. She had lost a lot of blood, and the neighbour called an ambulance.
Schoeman was discharged from the hospital on Monday and filed a complaint with the police.
According to residents, the alleged attacker first begged for money in other places in the town before she attacked Schoeman.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS, says the attacker was arrested on Monday afternoon and would be charged with attempted murder.
