The window period to change payment method for the Special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant of R350 will be opened from the 31 August to 6 September, 24 hours a day.
Clients who have just been approved by SASSA and have received the SMS messages to upload their banking details, must do so at any time, they should not wait for the opening of the window period.
For clients who have received their money in the past months and would like to change from one payment method to another to receive their money they will be able to do so effective from 31 August to 6 September. Approved beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant can change their payment method by visiting https://srd.sassa.gov.za
- Clients are requested to upload their personal bank account details which are registered in their names and not of other people or family members/relatives.
- The payment of the special grants is quicker if paid into a bank account. Applicants without bank accounts are thus encouraged to open an account.
- There are many entry level, inexpensive options in the market, some of which can be opened online.
- We plead with beneficiaries to please help SASSA to help them access the money to which they are entitled without delay by ensuring that their details are correct, the payment channel most convenient to them is selected and that the information provided is accurate.
Those who opt to get their money through cellphones, must ensure that the cellphones numbers which they provide to SASSA to do payments must be registered in their own names and not in other people or family members/relatives’ names.
SASSA would like to inform and confirm that clients who opted to receive their Special Covid-19 SRD Grant of R350 through cellphone, they will get their August 2020 payments through the cellphone numbers they have provided to SASSA, provided that those cellphone numbers are registered in their own names.
It is SASSA’s intentions to reduce pressure and overcrowding at Post Offices by paying clients through alternative options and payment method of their choice. Beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant are also requested not to visit the Post Office during the first seven days of the month as that week is reserved for payment of the normal grants. It is important for beneficiaries to understand that they should not go to the Post Office before they have received the SMS notification that says funds are available. The SMS notification is used to limit the numbers of people reporting to a Post Office on a particular day and also to ensure that sufficient cash is available.
Any citizen who does not update their information during the window period, or who provides incorrect banking details will have the payments for the remaining months sent through to the Post Office.
