A man (38) from Winburg was arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

On Saturday, 8 July, a teenage girl was raped while she and her 40-year-old mother were visiting the girl’s aunt in Makeleketla, Winburg.

At the aunt’s home, the mother started drinking with the suspect. After her daughter complained of being tired, the mother led her to the bedroom to sleep. She left her daughter there and went back to drinking in another room.

While the girl was asleep, she felt someone on top of her, busy raping her. She screamed for help and her mother came to her rescue. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

The incident was reported on 24 July at the Winburg police station, and a case of statutory rape was registered.

The case is investigated by Det. Sgt Mpho Kotsamere of the Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
