A 52-year-old Welkom man found in possession of dagga products valued at R60 000, was arrested following the arrest of a drug user in Thabong.
On Saturday (10/09), members of Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) were busy with their routine crime combating and stop-and-search duties when they saw an African man smoking dagga at the Mosewawa shopping complex.
He was searched and, after interrogation, told the police where he had bought the drugs.
POP members then went to a house in Refide Crescent, Jan Cilliers Park. The occupant of the house locked the burglar door so that police members could not gain entry.
“The police had to use force to gain access,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Inside they found a 20 litre bucket containing loose dagga, three large, black plastic rubbish bags containing loose dagga, and R380 in cash.
The dagga weighed 14,1 kg with the estimated value of R60 000.
