A group of angry residents from Thabong, Welkom, took to the streets on Friday (26/05) morning, marching in two groups of 50 to the municipal offices in protest of service delivery.
Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) members were called to the scene and engaged with residents. An official from the Matjhabeng Municipality was also arranged to come and address residents regarding their concerns.
Residents were warned, verbally, by police members to disperse and they obeyed. Police then started assisting the POP members to clear the roads, allowing traffic to flow.
The situation is under control, even though some members of the public were still seen lingering on street corners. Welkom POP members are still monitoring the situation.
A case of public violence has been registered for further investigation. Nobody has been arrested thus far.
