The prompt reaction of the Welkom K9 unit led to the recovery of a hijacked Ford Ranger bakkie in Virginia on Friday (21/04).

The Ford Ranger, with KwaZulu-Natal (ND) number plates, was found abandoned in Cobalt Street in Saaiplaas, Virginia. It had been taken from a vehicle dealership in Welkom on Friday.

Members of the K9 unit were busy conducting crime prevention duties when they received information about the hijacked vehicle worth R300 000.

“The Ranger was apparently hi-jacked at a vehicle dealership in Welkom on Friday. The K9 members immediately reacted and followed the leads. No suspects were at the scene. A hijacking case has been registered for further investigation,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
