Members of the Welkom police’s anti-gang unit arrested two suspects for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
The members were on duty when they received information from residents about suspects in possession of a firearm in Phomolong Village, Welkom.
A house in the area was searched and while conducting the search, a safe was cut open and revealed live ammunition, two holsters, and 37 empty cartridges.
A 48-year-old woman was arrested for the possession of unlicensed ammunition and suspected stolen items.
Another house in the same neighbourhood was identified and searched and a Norinco Star pistol was found with the serial number still visible and one magazine was seized.
A 42-year-old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
