In an effort to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV), members attached to the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit made two notable arrests.
In one incident, they apprehended a Bronville man who was caught assaulting his naked and tied-up partner, and in another, they arrested a man who is wanted after he allegedly sexually assaulted two minor victims aged 4 and 10.
Rape suspect arrested
On Saturday, 11 October, at approximately 11:30, members received information from Thabong Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) about an alleged rapist who is wanted for the alleged sexual assault of two minors.
The 30-year-old suspect was traced and swiftly apprehended by members. He is expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of rape.

Domestic violence incident
In a separate incident, the police members were conducting their crime-combating duties in Bronville, Welkom, when they were stopped by a concerned member of the community in Hani Park.
They were alerted to an alleged domestic violence scene where a 23-year-old was assaulting his girlfriend. They found the man assaulting the victim with a wooden stick. The victim was naked with both hands tied behind her back, allegedly by the suspect. The victim was safely removed from the scene of the crime to receive the necessary support.
Police confiscated the wooden stick and the pair of shoelaces used in the commission of the crime.
The 23-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH). He will appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
