The police are warning residents to not keep large sums of money in their homes after a house in Bronville was forcibly entered and lobola money was stolen.

A couple and their child were asleep in their home in Extension 18, Hani Park, Bronville on 13 December. The father was awoken by a strange noise from outside and decided to investigate. He could hear scratching noises from outside.

The bottom part of the wooden door to their home was then forcefully opened and five African men entered, armed with firearms and knives. They demanded cash and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Samsung cellphones valued at R4 500 and two bottles of Cognac, valued at R1 200, were also taken.

The money that was stolen was meant to pay for lobola.

A case of house robbery has been registered for further investigation.

Should anyone have information leading to the arrests of these five armed men, contact WO Charlette Jansen of the Bronville Detective Services on 082-301-2821 or Crime Stop number 08600-10111.

“Residents are sternly warned not to keep large sums of cash in their homes, especially money for lobola, money to pay for initiations, and stokvel money. All these transactions must be done at the bank to curb these robberies,” said Capt Stephen Thakeng, police spokesperson for Lejweleputswa.
