Bloem Water has managed to repair a chlorine leak, and the Balkfontein water plant is fully operational since Wednesday, 02 November.

An early morning notification indicated that Bloem Water experienced a chlorine leak during the night and was forced to stop operations at the Balkfontein water plant.

On Wednesday morning, the problem had been resolved by 09:00 and operations at Balkfontein were resumed.

The reservoir water levels picked up from 0% to 1.5% at 12:00.

At 16:00 the levels were still at 1.5%, but water pipes in Welkom were starting to fill up.

The Riebeeckstad and Ventersburg systems will not have water until the levels are at least 12%.

The pumps to Hennenman and Ventersburg will be started as soon as it is possible for them to operate without being damaged.
