Following futile pleas on deaf ears to restore water supply to a neighbourhood, to fix massive water leaks, and to rescue a power box submerged in water, the help of Bhekumuzi Stofile, speaker of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, has now been sought.
Ward councillor Igor Scheurkogel is at his wits’ end.
“I have now directly asked the speaker to intervene in this desperate situation. Despite numerous reports over the past month, no action has been taken,” says Scheurkogel.
Four streets in Lakeview (Fiskaal, Strandloper, Finch and Weaver) have been without water for a month.
Scheurkogel says that despite the situation being desperate and deemed to be an emergency, no help from the municipality has been forthcoming.
