The office of the provincial police commissioner and members of the Welkom police conducted visible policing and an awareness campaign at various crime hot spots in Welkom.
On Friday, 28 October, members of Partnership Policing distributed pamphlets and visited an auction held in Welkom. “These initiatives will be ongoing to ensure that shoppers and residents of Welkom are and feel safe,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
The various awareness activities included distributing
pamphlets with crime prevention hints for the prevention of vehicle theft and theft out of motor vehicles.
In Sector 3 (Welkom CBD) the focus was at crime hot spots in Kort Street, Welkom CBD taxi rank and in the vicinity of chain stores in the CBD.
In Dagbreek the campaign concentrated on residential burglaries committed at complexes, substance abuse, the destruction of the infrastructure, and making residents aware not to buy suspected stolen property.
