A 38-year-old parolee, who has previously been found guilty of house robbery and rape, and who was sentenced to 20 years in jail, has allegedly struck again and raped a nine-year-old boy during load shedding.

The alleged rape happened on Saturday 21 January at 21:00 in Meloding.

After news of the alleged rape spread through Meloding and surrounds, an angry mob took to the streets to hunt the perpetrator down. He was arrested three days later by the Meloding police.

Because of the load shedding, the child’s mother had apparently gone to her neighbour to ask for some candles. During this time, the suspect forced entry into the house and raped the child where he was sleeping in his bed.

The suspect left the house when he heard the mother returning.

The incident was reported to the Meloding police station and a case of house robbery and rape was registered for further investigation.

“The information spread like wild fire on social media and a large crowd of Meloding residents started hunting the suspect. He fled and hid in the bushes. He was arrested by a team of Meloding police on 24 January,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
