Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) members arrested a 34-year-old Meloding man for murder, and a 43-year-old Virginia courthouse security guard for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, believed to have been used to commit the act.

On Tuesday (21/02) the police followed up intelligence-driven information following a murder that had occurred in Meloding on Saturday (18/02).

Police went to a house in Albany section of Meloding where they arrested the man for murder.

They then went to another house where they interrogated a Virginia courthouse security guard.

“He told the police that the firearm they were looking for was at his workplace. The firearm had been used to commit the murder and was in the guardhouse at the Virginia Magistrate’s Court,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.

At the courthouse, the police found a Norinco 9 mm pistol and 34 pieces of live ammunition.
