After a high-speed chase, the Ventersburg police arrested a foreign national found in possession of stolen copper cable worth R443 000.

On 18 November, a foreign national was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property after members of the Ventersburg police caught him while patrolling the N1 highway about 15 km from Ventersburg near the Weltevreden farm.

Capt. Francois Odendal, Sgts. Sampi Mphore and Namane Namane, as well as Dawid Marais (Community Policing Forum member) were busy conducting a high-density patrol when a suspicious white bakkie passed them.

“The members gave chase, and managed to stop the driver. They asked for permission to search and found a large quantity of copper cable at the back of the white Toyota LDV with Gauteng registration numbers. There was also copper behind the seats in the bakkie,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.

The driver could not provide documents explaining why he was in possession of the copper cable. The 44-year-old man was arrested, and charged with being in possession of suspected stolen copper cable.

The suspect, Ezequiel Chiluvane, appeared in the Ventersburg Magistrate’s Court on 21 November, and the case was postponed till 28 November for further investigation.
