The Department of Health, will be running a mass measles immunization campaign, to prevent the further spread of the disease, says Zweli Qamkana, communications officer, Lejweleputswa District Health Services.

“The Campaign is expected to run from 6 to 17 February, with the aim of administering measles immunizations to the children between the ages of 6 months to 59 months,” says Qamkana.

Vitamin A supplementation and the deworming of eligible children will also form part of the campaign, he says.

“In Lejweleputswa district we will be targeting Early Childhood Development Centres, Pre-Schools and Day Care Centres. The measles vaccine will also be available at all Primary Health Care Facilities for children that do not attend school,” says Qamkana.

An appeal is made to the caregivers and the parents, to ensure that the children’s Road to Health Booklet are readily available at these sites during the campaign period.
