The Uitenhage Public Library recently hosted a Black History Month programme where the Grade 7 students from Fountain of Life were invited. According to the Senior Librarian of the Uitenhage Public Library, Nompumelelo Ngcoko, the library aims to highlight Black History Month by celebrating its own artists. She added that the library supports informal education, while schools promote formal education. Ngcoko stated, ‘Hosting this event will enhance the learners’ presentation skills.’ At the event, learners were given an opportunity to present an African leader who made a significant impact on society. Ngcoko further mentioned that they hope events like these will foster self-belief among learners, encouraging them to dream big and not to underestimate themselves based on their current circumstances.
