Two unions say yes to wage offer

Sibanye-Stillwater have nnounced that two of the unions involved, Solidarity and Uasa, have unconditionally accepted the final wage offer that was made on 4 February.

On Monday (14/03) Sibanye-Stillwater announced that two of the unions involved, Solidarity and Uasa, have unconditionally accepted the final wage offer that was made on 4 February.

“As a consequence their members will no longer be locked out of the workplace. The remaining two unions, Amcu and the NUM, have not yet accepted the final wage offer and their members continue to be locked out of the workplace until such time as they accept,” said Neal Froneman, chief executive officer (CEO) of Sibanye-Stillwater.

“We are pleased that Solidarity and Uasa have unconditionally accepted our final offer. We believe the offer is fair and in the interests of all.”

Froneman said they were hopeful that both Amcu and the NUM would soon follow suit to avoid further consequences from strike action.

On Wednesday, 9 March, Sibanye-Stillwater declared a lockout for all employees after an impasse in wage negotiations had been reached, and the coalition declared a strike action.

The principle of “no work, no pay” applies to striking employees and locked-out members of the unions who have not accepted the wage offer.
