Two suspects in court for possession of illegal firearms, stolen goods

Property stolen in Virginia during November 2023 was recovered from a house in Thabong.

On 13 August members of the Anti Gang Unit received information from Crime Intelligence about suspected stolen property and an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Thabong.

A house in Mosiako street was approached and permission was granted to search.

The police found one 66 inch Skyworth plasma television set, one remote control, one power cable, one HP laptop. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested.

Then members proceeded to a house in Bochabela street, Thabong where permission was granted to search.

While they were busy, one pistol CZ 75 with five rounds of ammunition and two magazines were found and seized. A 37-year-old suspect could not produce documents to be in possession of the firearm. He was arrested.

Both suspects have appeared in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court.

“The residents of Thabong are praised for their support and for providing information that led to the recovery of the propery and the he illegal gun and ammunition, and the arrest of the two men,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
