The Odendaalsrus police have arrested two suspects for the alleged murder and kidnapping of a 27-year-old hawker in Odendaalsrus.

It is alleged that on Sunday, 2 February, at about 20:00, an altercation ensued between a fuel station employee and the hawker over selling fruits on the filling station’s premises.

“He was allegedly pursued by the two suspects and an unknown African male. They loaded him onto a bakkie before taking him back to the fuel station.

“On arrival at the petrol station, the suspects allegedly assaulted him with a knobkerrie and sjambok. The victim was later taken by an ambulance from his home to a local hospital before being transferred to a regional hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” says Capt. Loraine Earle, police spokesperson in the Free State.

Two suspects were subsequently arrested for murder and kidnapping on Friday, 21 March, in Odendaalsrus.

“The police also seized the Isuzu bakkie allegedly used in the commission of crime. Investigations are still ongoing,” says Earle.
