A three-year-old Phomolong child was savagely mauled to death by two pit bull terriers on Sunday morning.
The child was playing with other children at a house in Sekoti Mpate, Phomolong, when he was attacked and killed by the vicious dogs.
After the gruesome mauling, residents attacked the dogs and killed one with garden spades and stones, and then burned it to death.
Members of Welkom Public Order Policing were summoned to the scene and removed the owner of the dogs to a safe place. The other pit bull was taken by SPCA.

“A case of Inquest has been registered for further investigation. The situation is tense but POP members are at the scene to ensure that law and order is maintained,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, medie liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS.
