Two hit mark in boccia

A Welkom boccia player, Karabo Morapedi, and his ramp operator, Vincent Ramochela, took part in the Boccia All Africa Event that was held between 16 and 24 May at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.


A Welkom boccia player, Karabo Morapedi, and his ramp operator, Vincent Ramochela, took part in the Boccia All Africa Event that was held between 16 and 24 May at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

Morapedi was chosen to represent South Africa at the first ever World African Boccia Regional Championships, hosted by South Africa, in Gauteng.

Egypt and Morocco were the two countries that South Africa competed against, and Morapedi played in both individual and the pairs competitions.

Morapedi played in the BC3 males individual division, where he was placed second, and received a silver medal.

He also played in the BC3 pairs division with Elanza Jordaan from Cape Town. They came first and both received gold medals.

The two played against Egypt in the finals and beat the opposition by 7 – 1.

They have been included in the South African team that will compete in Brazil in December.
