A 20-year-old Thabong man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he set his girlfriend alight with paraffin.
The Thabong police arrested the man for allegedly burning his 27-year-old girlfriend with a lit paraffin heater, and then dousing her in paraffin on Sunday 14 June.
“It is alleged that the victim was having drinks with her friends at a neighboring house when the boyfriend arrived and interrupted the ladies by hurling insults at them. When one of the friends objected, the suspect started assaulting the victim. He started kicking her with booted foot, threw all sorts of objects at her then threw her on the bed,” says Brig. Sam Makhele.
The suspect then allegedly threw a lit paraffin heater at the victim. During this attack the bed and the blankets caught fire. The attacker poured paraffin over the victim which resulted in severe burn wounds. She was taken to Bongani Hospital for medical treatment.A case of attempted murder has been registered at Thabong SAPS and the suspect will appear in court soon.
