Five suspects were arrested on suspicion of theft after an off-duty Ventersburg police member reacted to information about goods stolen from a truck at an N1 truck stop.
On Wednesday, 12 July, the police member received information about a laptop that had been stolen from a truck.
A 42-year-old suspect was arrested, and the stolen laptop was found in Mmamahabane, Ventersburg.
“While on the way to the police station, a 27-year-old male suspect who was identified as the person who sold two laptops to the first suspect, was seen walking on the side of the road and was swiftly arrested,” says Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three more suspects, believed to have also taken part in the initial theft.
Police recovered a chainsaw, glass cutters, and a printer X allegedly stolen from the truck.
The estimated value of the stolen goods recovered during the investigation is R30 000.
The five suspects are aged between 27 and 42 years, and have been charged with theft out of a motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen goods.
