Three learners of the Teto High School placed amongst the top 100 best-performing matric learners in the Free state.
This makes Teto the only school in Matjhabeng to produce three learners in the top 100 ranking.
The school’s principal, Pateng Rakatsinyane, has expressed how proud he is of his learners.
“This makes me proud, considering where we come from – where we built from,” he says.
Rakatsinyane mentioned that Katleho Fisafi, Kamva Ntoyathe and Matene Monaheng excelled so well after they were introduced to various competitions like the Science mini quiz, Maths olympiad and the Kutloanong Project, which had a Maths and Physical Sciences weekend and holiday classes aiming to assist learners with their marks.
Based on their performance, the three boys, plus two others of Teto, were amongst ten learners who were taken on a tour in Cape Town during the spring holiday.
“These learners have very different backgrounds, which made it a challenge for them in school, but they did so well,” says Rakatsinyane.
“We had an intervention camp at school so that they could study and get support from their educators.”
Ntoyakhe attained five distinctions, with a 100% score in Mathematics.
“Be specific. I was specific about the 100% and I got it,” he says.
Fisafi attained an overall score of 81,2% and five distinctions, with 99% in Mathematics.
Matene Monaheng also made it to the Top 100 in the Free State. He achieved an overall score of 84,7% with five distinctions.
“These learners were hard-working, dedicated and quiet. They always topped Mathematics and Physical Sciences and were consistent with the distinctions, so I expected them to be where they are now. As their Physical Science teacher, I am very proud,” said Nthuseng Motaung.
