The Welkom anti-gang unit members intercepted three alleged drug dealers at Maqheleng Zone 8 near Ficksburg and seized a stash of Mandrax tablets.
On Monday, 6 May, at about 23:00, the Welkom anti-gang unit currently deployed at Ficksburg/Meqheleng was off duty when they received information from a community member about a suspect who was in possession of drugs.
“The police members reacted swiftly and arrested the 38-year-old man in possession of 164 Mandrax tablets. His arrest led the team to yet another house, where a couple was found selling drugs to a minor who fled upon their arrival. The two were found in possession of cut half- and quarter-Mandrax tablets already prepared to hit the streets of Katlehong section,” says WO Mmako Mophiring, a spokesperson for the Free State police.
The three suspects, aged 28, 33, and 38, appeared in the Ficksburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 7 May.
They have been charged with possession and dealing in drugs.
