The town of Theunissen in the Free State has been without water for four days now after fifteen metres of copper cable was stolen from the water treatment plant.
The theft of the cable worth R25 000 has critically damaged the infrastructure at the plant, which is situated at the Gewin Farm. The theft took place between 19:00 on 13 December and 01:30 on 14 December, and the damage to the infrastructure at the plant is estimated at R2 million rand.
A case of theft of copper cable and damage to infrastructure was registered for further investigation, says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa SAPS.
