DURING January 2016 members were busy with their
routine checking of compliance with regards to Firearms Act, when a well-known
dealer in Welkom was approached and there was non-compliance to the Firearms
Control Act 60 of 2000. The owner of the dealer failed to renew a dealer
licence in terms of Section 35 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. The Welkom Police have seized 372 firearms and also
ammunition for non-compliance with the Firearms Control Act
Firearms owners who kept their firearms for safe keeping are requested
to come to Welkom Police Station to claim their handguns with proof of
ownership. Estate firearms which were kept at New Van Riebeeck Cycle House
Dealer pending the finalization of their estate are requested to come forward
to claim their handguns or rifles.
People who applied for Firearm Licences since from 2011 till 2015 are
requested also come forward to collect their documents as for them not to
collect them can put them in bad side of the law. Deceased Firearms are
also a challenge because people have not changed status or applied for these
firearms.
