These community assets have the potential to support local development, youth activities, and social programs. However, neglect has led to their current state. At the Reahola centre there is no electricity, which forced a recent integrated development plan (IDP) and budget meeting to be held in the dark. The community hall windows are broken and the toilets are non-functioning.

The conditions at the Western Holdings Stadium and the Reahola Community Hall are shocking, and remedial action is being demand.

At the Western Holdings stadium key issues include overgrown grass, missing netball poles and goal post nets, faded lines and overgrown trees, posing potential safety risks.

At the Reahola Community Hall there is no electricity. This forced that the recent IDP and budget meeting to be held in the dark. The windows are broken and the toilets are non-functioning.

“These community assets have the potential to support local development, youth activities, and social programs. However, neglect has led to their current state. We urge the municipality to perform basic maintenance, such as grass cutting, and apply for grants to rehabilitate the stadium and community hall,” says ward councillor Estelle Dansey (DA).

She says the municipality must engage with the community to ensure their needs are met. “I will request to meet with the Acting Municipal Manager to discuss and finalize an action plan for addressing the issues at Western Holdings Stadium and Reahola Community Hall.
Dansey says feels this proactive approach will help drive meaningful change and improvements in the community.

“Community involvement is crucial in revitalizing these facilities. We will work closely with residents to ensure their voices are heard and concerns addressed. Together, we can bring these valuable assets back to life and create positive spaces for our community to thrive.”
