Just like water flowing along the banks of a river, so too does your life flow through the river of life.

What happens when you dam a river? The water builds up on one side and the other side dries up. A once powerful river becomes a muddy bank.

Worry acts like a dam wall holding back life-giving water. So often we find ourselves slopping around in the muddy and dirty water of life’s circumstances, fixed and focused on the problems of the day that we cannot change. Or standing on the bank staring at this pool of water, not having the answer to the troubled thought.

Worrying, at its core, is meditating on all the possible negative outcomes in life, the “what if”. It requires fixating on things that have not happened yet or on lies that contradict God’s Word.

I have been challenged lately to take note of a small area in my life where I, unknowingly, allowed worry and doubt to enter. I found myself not speaking words of faith but of doubt – and realised I have to, once again, get my mind in line with the Word of God. It creeps in silently without fanfare, and before long you find yourself chained by worry.

The good news is we can stop worrying right now by choosing to be a good custodian of our thought life, filling it with the Word of God.

So my friend, break down the dam wall of worry, allow the river of life to flow in and through you like a gushing stream of pure water; water that will touch and change, encourage and infuse many around you.
