Do you recall the nervousness of waiting for the delivery of a package, phoning to see if it has arrived, only to be let down on occasion?

We are instructed in scripture to walk by faith. However, without proper understanding we can often think that faith is blindly taking a chance on God. That is often the uneducated or unscriptural version of faith. In times like these, with uncertainty and a seemingly hopeless future, can we really have assurance for our lives and families?

The answer is yes. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that, “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. So faith is not empty. It is not about taking a chance, and it definitely is not an opinion.

Faith is a surety that is signed, sealed, and delivered by the ultimate authority of our lives.

So how do we know that we truly have faith in God and not just our own desires?

Let us ask ourselves: What is the object of our faith? If we rely on our own strength, we will fall short.

Here are three promises in scripture that will give us confidence:

1. Jeremiah 29:11 and Psalms 139:16 give us a clear indication that our Heavenly Father has mapped out all our days and planned a hopeful future for us.

2. The Holy Spirit confirms God’s word for our lives in John 14:26. “But when the Father sends the Spirit of Holiness, the One like me who sets you free, he will teach you all things in my name. And he will inspire you to remember every word that I’ve told you.”

3. Through all seasons and trials, Jesus assures us that He is with us right up until the end in Matthew 28:20.

Do you see your life as clearly as God does? What do you see, and do you see what Jesus sees? Have faith in God.

Remember, even in his darkest moment, the criminal on a cross next to Jesus had faith that he too would be in paradise.
