The final countdown to the 23rd annual Mediclinic Vista Road Race on Saturday, 23 August, has begun, and excitement is mounting.

Hosted by the Eskom Athletics Club FS, this popular road race will feature various distances, including a 10km, 5km and a 1,6km road mile.

Hilde du Plessis, organiser, says the race is not only a celebration of athleticism, but also a tribute to National Women’s Month and the importance of family and friends.

“Whether you are young, a master, or simply inspired, this is the event to enjoy to the fullest,” says Du Plessis.

The races start at 11:00, with the prizegiving at 15:30. Online entries are open on entryninja.com. Manual entries are open at Virgin Active Welkom up to the Friday, from 13:00 to 18:30. The cut-off for entries will be on the day of the event at 08:30.

In their attempt to help build excitement among members of the community for the upcoming event, numerous mascots − namely the Blood Buddy mascot, Engo Free State’s mascot, Omgie, and the Toktokkie Cansa mascot − are raring to go and join runners at the water points along the route. Entry forms are available at the Vista office in Stateway, as well as at Mediclinic in Meulen Street, the SANBS offices in Welkom and Kroonstad, Charlotte Moll Haven in Virginia, and the Brandwag Volkskool in Odendaalsrus.

Du Plessis says they aim to highlight the extraordinary women in the community and the invaluable role of their families and friends − with the additional motivation to promote healthy living.

Bring your family, friends and colleagues and enjoy this celebration for 2025 a celebration of Women’s month in honour of Women with Capital Sounds 40 years of broadcasting celebration. A lot of entertainment on the route with 15 water points ready to motivate to be a star completing the race distance and updates at the finish line await. Motorist are requested to be aware of roads which will be used by participants.

Road closure will take place on Saturday from 06:30 until 17:30 and will encompass Meulen Street from corner Petrus Bosch Street towards Lategan Street. Lategan Street from the emergency entrance towards Tempest Road-dual road. Unicorn road. Unicorn Road towards Kok Street.

Temporary closure are Unciorn Road, Mount Frere Street, Langeberg Street, Naude Street, Kok Street and Othello Road.

To reach the Mediclinic hospital motorists must use alternative route which are Longroad, Petrus Bosch Street or Toronto Road Lategan Street. Emegency entrance to be open.
