A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Thabong for being one of two men suspected of raping a 12-year-old boy on Election Day, 29 May.
The alleged rapist was arrested on 5 June.
“The second rapist is still at large,” says Capt.Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the police in Lejweleputswa.
On 6 June, Welkom Crime Intelligence operationalised information they had received about a male suspect wanted for murder and robbery committed during April.
A 33-year-old man was arrested in a house at 2010 Village Thabong.
The police received further information about a mob justice murder on 6 June, which they followed up on. A suspect was wanted for murder committed through mob justice, which followed an incident where a man accused of raping a minor in 2010 Village Thabong in 2023, was killed. Residents assisted the police, which led to the arrest of the 29-year-old suspect.
In a fourth incident, the Welkom police were informed about a most wanted suspect. He is sought for rape and assault that occurred during June. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested where he was hiding himself in Sunrise, Thabong.
All these suspects who have committed serious crimes in Thabong, were arrested by the Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) under the leadership of WO Thabo Booy.
The suspects have all individually appeared in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court.
