Community members working closely with the police in Hoopstad led to the arrest of a 41-year-old drug dealer, and the subsequent recovery of an unlicensed firearm.

On Tuesday, 27 September, the Anti-Gang unit arrested a man for dealing drugs in Hoopstad.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was in possession of an illegal firearm. The firearm was reported to be concealed in the suspect’s house.

“He was taken back to his house where members continued with the search and found a black plastic bag containing a 9 mm pistol with live ammunition.

The suspect failed to provide the police with a licence and was charged again for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm,” says Sgt. Mahlomola Kareli, spokesperson for the Free State police.

He will appear in the Hoopstad Magistrate’s Court for drug dealing and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
