A showdown to determine netball supremacy in South Africa is on the line as two arch-rivals, the Free State Crinums and Gauteng’s Golden Fireballs, prepared to meet in the final of the Telkom Netball League division A taking place this afternoon – Sunday, 20 Sunday. They face off in the Durban International Convention Centre. Kick-off was at 15:00.

This will be the Fireballs’ second final, following the first in 2022 when they were eventually crowned the champions. They beat their fellow provincial opponents, the Jaguars, 35 – 32 to clinch their first-ever title.

Both the Crinums and Fireballs secured their slots in the final after beating their opponents, the Gauteng Jaguars and the Western Cape’s Southern Stings, respectively in the semifinals played on Friday, 18 July. The Crinums, defending champions and four-time winners, are on the quest for their fifth TNL title in this high-stakes final against another Gauteng side.

The teams are expected to unleash their strategic plots. The reigning champions are plotting the route to the final berth to successfully defend the title. Their head coach, Martha Mosoahle-Samm, is on the edge of making history to win her second title in succession with the team. She is plotting her winning strategy with her capable technical team members, which includes the highly experienced Karla Pretorius (née Mostert).

Records are set to tumble in this super-charged final of South Africa’s premier netball competition. The Fireballs’ impressive undefeated record in the competition is on the line and so is the reigning champions’ record as the second most successful team of the seven in the Telkom Netball League. The Crinums have lost just two finals, in 2020 and 2023 against the Jaguars (26 – 38 and 59 – 51, respectively).

Victory for the Crinums in this adrenaline-pumping final will confirm their status as South Africa’s netball powerhouse and prove they have championship pedigree.

She commented following the team’s hard-fought 58 – 52 victory over the Jaguars in the semifinal, in which she won the Player of the Match accolade.
