The debating team of the Welkom Technical High School (THS) has won the Youth Citizen Action Programme (YCAP) provincial finals that were held in Bloemfontein on 2 September.
This vibrant team, coached by Katlego Shuping, will now represent the Free State at the nationals that will be held from 20 to 22 October.
This is the same team that was placed second at the Heritage Education School Outreach Programme (HESOP) provincials on 19 August.
The team includes learners Teboho Henson and Lihle Xaba who participated at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli national speech and debate competition which took place from 28 to 30 August in Durban. Xaba won gold.
He was also chosen to represent the province at the Aqua Enduro national contest occurring from 1 to 8 October in Gauteng.
These debaters also represented their district at the Moot Court provincials competition which took place at the Bloemfontein High Court on 2 September. The THS boys’ essay came third in the province.
