In a bid to foster good relations with its local government and host communities in Nyakallong, who have been severely affected by flooding of the nearby Pan due to recent floods, Harmony has commissioned a Reverse Osmosis Plant at its Target Operations.

Continuous efforts have been made to ensure that excess water from the mine is treated and reused, resulting in no discharges into Voelpan from Target Operations.
During a recent visit from Matjhabeng Local Municipality, including the Acting Executive Mayor, municipal officials, and Members of Mayoral Committe, the delegation confirmed that they are now convinced that Harmony is no longer pumping water into Voelpan. Target Operation has complied with its obligations under the Directive issued by Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) regarding discharges from the Target Mine. The total cost of the Target Osmosis Plant was R19.5 million.
The visit to the Target Operations proved to be a pivotal moment. This visit not only addressed the concerns raised but also demonstrated Harmony’s commitment to maintaining open and honest communication with local authorities.
This collaborative effort represents a significant step forward in fostering trust and deepening the relationship between Harmony and the government. By addressing environmental concerns and ensuring transparency, Harmony demonstrates its commitment to responsible mining practices and community engagement.
