The police in Welkom are still looking for the murderer or murderers of Zithembile Brian Mgqeku (43), whose lifeless body was found in an open field behind Edu-College facilities on 26 December 2023.
Mgqeku had sustained several stab wounds to his head and body, and was found still bleeding by a passerby.
The deceased was identified by an aunt of his at the Welkom Mortuary.
Upon his death, Mgqeku was residing in Ngabazeli Street, Thabong.
Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer for the Lejweleputswa police, says preliminary investigations have revealed that on 25 December 2023, at about 20:00, Mgqeku had gone to a nearby shebeen to buy beer.
“This is the last time he was seen alive. He was wearing grey jeans, grey All Star tekkies and a cream tracksuit top.
