Suspects caught in Goldfields for dealing in drugs, atttempted bribery

Five people were arrested for dealing in drugs, and three for attempted bribery, in Welkom, Odendaalsrus and Bothaville.

Five people were arrested for dealing in drugs, and three for attempted bribery, in Welkom, Odendaalsrus and Bothaville.

On 27 May intelligence driven operations lead to the arrest of two foreign nationals in the Welkom CBD.

Members of Welkom Anti Gang Unit received information from Crime Intelligence regarding drugs been sold.

They approached a foreign national, and found six packets of Nyaope (Heroin), one packet of CAT drugs and R150 cash. He was arrested. He then tried to bribe the police with R700, which was also seized.

While the police members were taking the 43-year-old suspect away, a second foreign national approached the police with R350 cash to bribe the police officials to release his fellow countryman from custody.

A 32-year-old foreign national was arrested for bribery and the cash was also seized.

On 25 May members of Welkom Public Order Policing were busy with crime combatting when they received information from a concerned resident in Thabong who pointed out a house in Molai street where drugs are been sold.

The information was operationalised and the police found ten full and one half Mandrax tablets, and R1 040 cash. A 35 year-old man was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs.

Also on 25 May members of the Anti Gang Unit were busy with crime combating in Bothaville CBD when they noticed suspicious exchanges between two men. When approached the two men walked away in different directions.

A 40-year-old foreign national was followed and found in possession of two 5 grams Crystal Meth satchets, one 5 grams CAT drugs and 12 Crystal Meth satchets.

The second 33-year-suspect was also followed until in River Street in Bothaville, where he was found in possession of one Crystal Meth sachet in his pocket.
