Three suspects from Stilfontein and Orkney were arrested for possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunitions and a Toyota RAV4.
On 28 June, Welkom Tactical Response Team (TRT) was informed by Crime Intelligence about a planned armed robbery in Theunissen.
The Welkom TRT spotted a white Toyota RAV4 with North West registration numbers at a Caltex filling station in Theunissen.
The vehicle was stopped and three male occupants aged 29, 44 and 45 years were searched as well as the vehicle.
Two firearms (CZ P99 pistol with serial number clearly visible with a magazine and 16 live ammunitions and PX4 Storm pistol, magazine with seven live ammunitions) were found hidden inside the air filter box in the engine compartment.
The two unlicensed firearms, ammunitions and a Toyota RAV4 were seized. The investigation continues.
