An undocumented foreign national was caught with suspected stolen cattle in an intelligence-driven operation.
On 26 June, Crime Intelligence members received a tip-off that a foreign national was found with 14 purportedly stolen cows, worth R280 000.
The case was applied by the Odendaalsrus Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit and Welkom Public Order Policing (POP) members.
It is believed that the livestock was stolen from a farm in Hennenman, and the farmer registered a case of stock theft.
A 46-year-old suspect has been arrested and is facing charges of possession of suspected stolen live stock, and stock theft. The suspect is also charged for being an illegal immigrant.
“We as the police would like to applaud the residents of Hennenman for giving information to the police, and the swift reaction by the Crime Intelligence, Stock Theft units and Welkom POP which led to the arrest and seizure of the cattle,” says Brig. Mzondi Mojafi, acting district commissioner of Lejweleputswa.
