Two men, aged 27 and 33 years, respectively, selling electronic devices in Mooi Street in the Welkom CBD were arrested after a tip-off from a local businessman.

The items, with an estimated value of R30 000, were immediately confiscated by the Welkom Anti-Gang unit, who were busy with visible policing in the area. The men had tried to sell the electronics

to a businessman on 3 April.

The police immediately responded and approached the two while they were pushing a trolley with the items inside. When they saw the police, they tried to flee, leaving the trolley and electronics behind. The pair were chased and apprehended.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there was a burglary at the Brothers Cellular store in Bok Street in the early hours of 3 April.

The store owner managed to positively identify the stolen items as his property. The suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen items, which were handed back to the lawful owner.

The stolen items are 17 cellphones, one iPad, two professional gaming headsets, nine Bluetooth headsets, one Doomax sound audio controller, one pair of AKG headphones, four power banks, and one Bivoo car FM transmitter.

The suspects appeared in the Welkom Magistrates’ Court on 5 April.
