Illegal miners were found by Fidelity ADT and the Welkom police with their gold-bearing material in Welkom.
On Friday, 24 November, the private company, Fidelity ADT Welkom, received information of a possible kidnapping in progress in Welkom between Naudeville and the St Helena hospital.
When they arrived there was no kidnapping, but movement in the bushes was noticed.
The team went to investigate, where they found an illegal mining site.
The Welkom Flying squad was called to the scene but the suspects had escaped, with no arrests made.
Illegal mining equipment like gold-bearing material and buckets, shovels, and other items used to process gold were seized.
