A man was arrested for hijacking a delivery truck at gunpoint, and robbing a large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco products in Welkom.
On 1 August members of the Welkom K9 unit were informed about a hijacking that took place in Jasons Way in Riebeeckstad, Welkom.
The police, together with a private security company, initiated a manhunt. The hijacked vehicle was found in the Thubelitsha section of Thabong, but all the stock was removed from the vehicle.
The search continued until a second vehicle was found in Mashele Street in Oppenheimer Park, Thabong, with the stolen stock. Apparently, the delivery man fell victim to a hijacking at gunpoint.
A 43-year-old foreign national was arrested for hijacking and possession of suspected stolen items.
