Dr Amohelang Masibingile Machobane has graduated with a PhD in Educational Management from the University of South Africa.

The title of her thesis was “Students’ Experiences of Academic Student Support Systems in open distance e-learning environment: a case study of the University of South Africa”.

In her thesis Machobane investigated how students experienced the academic support available to them at Unisa, an open distance e-learning institution. Her results showed that the university does offer e-learning support at its campuses. However, some students experienced challenges in accessing such support outside the campuses – due to long distances from these campuses, lack of internet access and electricity problems.

The challenges made distance e-learning difficult for students.

Her findings provided valuable information for understanding the complexities associated with distance e-learning environment.

Her supervisor was Prof Masilonyana Motseke from Welkom. He too is a distinguished academic who was a lecturer at the Central University of Technology, Welkom Campus, as well as a high school principal at Phehello Secondary School, Kutloanong, Odendaalsrus, and at Tikwana Secondary School, Tikwana, Hoopstad.
