The Virginia police followed up information about stock theft in progress, and arrested the driver of a bakkie containing the carcasses of eight goats and two sheep. Seven other suspects managed to flee the scene.
On Friday (06/01) the Virginia police investigated a reported theft at a farm in Virginia. Back-up was sought from Welkom Visible Policing. A bakkie with a canopy was spotted travelling on the gravel road towards the farm, and a while later the same vehicle was spotted leaving the farm.
The police followed the vehicle to the crossing at the roads to Aldam, Virginia and Winburg, where it was stopped.
Seven suspects fled and the driver was arrested for possession of presumably suspected stolen stock. The bakkie was also seized.
